Card XII — the great reversal. Everything the Fool has built — identity, will, strength, justice — must now be seen from the other side. The Hanged Man teaches that some truths only appear when you stop trying to stand upright.
A figure hangs upside down from a living tree, one leg crossed behind the other, a halo of light around his head. He is not in pain. He is not struggling. The Hanged Man chose this. He suspended himself to see the world from an angle that standing never permits. This is the card of voluntary surrender — not defeat, but the wisdom of letting go to gain something you cannot take by force.
